“The RMLS report showed a 13.6 percent increase in the number of closing home sales in the Portland Metro Area compared to this time last year.
And it was the highest number of closings since 2006. New house listings and pending sales are up as well.
Portland realtor Nick Krautter says it’s not unheard of to see this kind of late run in the market.
“I think a lot of folks that were waiting for winter to hopefully buy a home at a discount are realizing that might not happen,” Krautter said, “and are choosing instead to purchase now, and move in before the depths of winter. ”
The average home price also rose 7.4 percent, from around $310,000 last year to just over $333,000 over the last ten months.
A new study by the financial website Interest.com found that Portland ranked 15th this year in terms of home affordability among the 25 largest metropolitan areas in the U.S.“
